Howard Sanderson Lloyd (born 1905, Shore 1919-23), 1st Crew 1922-23, Captain of Boats 1923, Prefect 1922-23. Died in Sydney, 25th July, 1987. On leaving school, Howard studied engineering at Sydney University and resided (1925-27) at St Pauls College where he earned a reputation of never refusing to do anything for anyone. During this time he continued his interest in rowing, coaching and participating in many crews for the College and the University. Completion of his degree saw him join the then Sydney City Council Electricity Department, later to become Sydney County Council where he served for 41 years to retirement in 1970 in the position of Chief Installation Inspector. He spent considerabte time during his career as a member and chairman of many committees for the Standards Association of Australia, State and National Electrical Approvals Authorities, and other bodies involved in electrical reticulation and safety. He continued to serve on many of these committees well after retirement from Sydney County Council. He married Lorraine Snyder in 1936 (December 1967) and raised three children, Janet (born 1938), Margaret (born 1941) and David (born 1943), (Shore 1956-60). He was a devoted husband and father (and in later years grandfather), he managed to fit in some time for golf. He could be found on the course at Avondale any Saturday, regardless of weather, up until very recent years, when his health prevented him keeping up this sport. Throughout his life, Howard maintained the reputation earned at Pauls of always being available to help anyone with a problem. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
