Rachel Lloyd spent these years in England and Scotland - The letters sent home to family over this time have survived.
They give an interesting insight to wartime in England and nursing, physiotherapy and medical practices during this time. 1939 1940 1941 1942 1943 1944 1945 1946

Oh, I nearly forgot to mention my greatest thrill since I
returned – a letter from Winston Churchill! Just before
leaving England, in an impulsive moment I wrote him a
short note saying, ‘Thank you’. He replied in his own
writing “I thank you very much for your letter, which gave
me great pleasure. Winston Churchill”.
I never imagined mine would get further than the wastepaper basket in the outer office!
