Van Diemen’s Land Handwritten (on watermarked paper) Third of Exchange, Magistrate for Van Diemen’s Land Hobart Town for Whitehall, London 24-9-1834, for 17 Pounds, 10 Shillings payable to the signee, Peter Roberts. Payment being for amount of pension for the loss of one eye during service as the Deputy Assistant Commissary General (1-7-1838 to 30-9-1838). Signed in ink on back, with ‘Pay to the order of G Butler esq, signed Peter Roberts, Deputy Assistant Commissary General’ and ‘Pay to the order of Ann Butler of Hounslow-Middlesex’, signed Butler.
